The Fv714 between Hemnskjel by the mainland and Jøsnøya on Hitra runs 5.6 kilometres under the Trondheimsleia in Trøndelag. The tunnel is the main part of the fixed link that connects Hitra and Frøya to the mainland.

The tunnel opened on 8 December 1994 and replaced the ferry across the Trondheimsleia. It reaches 264 metres below sea level, which made it Norway's deepest road tunnel, a title the Eiksund tunnel took over in 2008. The steepest gradient is 10 percent.

The link was financed with tolls, and traffic grew so large that collection ended in 2008, several years ahead of plan. With the Frøya tunnel of 2000, the whole road out to Frøya became ferry-free. A closure here affects everything from commuting to the fishing fleet on Frøya, so check the status before setting out.
