The E69 runs 6.9 kilometres in tunnel under the Magerøysundet strait, from the mainland out to Magerøya in Finnmark. The tunnel opened on 15 June 1999, as the main part of the fixed link to the North Cape.

It is 212 metres deep at the most, and was the second longest undersea road tunnel in the world when it opened, after the tunnel under Tokyo Bay. Together with the Honningsvåg tunnel it replaced the ferry between Kåfjord and Honningsvåg.

The North Cape tunnel is the northernmost undersea road tunnel in the world, and it has cold-lock doors at both ends that keep the winter cold out. Magerøya has no other way in, so a closure closes the road to the North Cape itself. Check the status before setting out.
