The Rv658 between Ålesund and Ellingsøya runs 3.5 kilometres under the Ellingsøyfjord in Møre og Romsdal. Together with the Valderøy tunnel it gave Ålesund a ferry-free road to Ellingsøya, Valderøya and Vigra.

The two tunnels were opened by King Olav on 20 October 1987, and before them Norway had only one undersea road tunnel. The Ellingsøy tunnel reaches 144 metres below sea level, and the steepest gradient is 8.5 percent.

Since the opening, both tunnels have been upgraded, among other things with new fans in 2023, which brought periods of convoy driving. The islands outside Ålesund have no other way in, so a closure closes the whole link. Check the status before you drive.
